How Does Someone Get to Heaven?

We believe the Bible teaches that we can't get to heaven by being "good enough" or doing religious things. The only way to heaven is by God's grace through faith in Jesus Christ. Here's how that works:

1. God Makes the First Move

Before we ever thought about God, He already had a plan to save us. He chose us out of love—not because of anything we’ve done, but because of His grace.

📖 “He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we would be holy and blameless before Him.” – Ephesians 1:4
📖 “We love because He first loved us.” – 1 John 4:19

2. We Hear the Good News

At some point, we hear the message that Jesus came to save sinners, and that He died and rose again so we can be forgiven and have eternal life.

📖 “Faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ.” – Romans 10:17
📖 “Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures… He was buried… He was raised on the third day.” – 1 Corinthians 15:3–4

3. God Opens Our Heart

On our own, we are spiritually blind and dead in sin. But God softens our hearts, gives us understanding, and draws us to Himself.

📖 “No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him.” – John 6:44
📖 “The Lord opened her heart to respond to the things spoken by Paul.” – Acts 16:14
📖 “Even when we were dead in our trespasses, [God] made us alive together with Christ.” – Ephesians 2:5

4. We Believe and Turn to Jesus

When God changes our hearts, we respond by believing in Jesus and turning away from our sin. We trust that He is the only one who can save us.

📖 “Repent and believe in the gospel.” – Mark 1:15
📖 “If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.” – Romans 10:9
📖 “Everyone who believes in Him receives forgiveness of sins through His name.” – Acts 10:43

5. God Forgives and Accepts Us

The moment we put our trust in Christ, God forgives all our sins, declares us righteous, and welcomes us into His family.

📖 “There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.” – Romans 8:1
📖 “He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.” – 2 Corinthians 5:21
📖 “To all who did receive Him… He gave the right to become children of God.” – John 1:12

6. Our Life Begins to Change

When we're truly saved, our life starts to reflect it. The Holy Spirit lives in us and helps us grow in obedience, love, and holiness.

📖 “If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation.” – 2 Corinthians 5:17
📖 “The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness…” – Galatians 5:22–23
📖 “For it is God who works in you both to will and to work for His good pleasure.” – Philippians 2:13

7. We Keep Following Jesus

True believers stick with Jesus. Not perfectly—but we don’t walk away from the faith. God keeps us and gives us strength to keep going.

📖 “The one who endures to the end will be saved.” – Matthew 24:13
📖 “He who began a good work in you will bring it to completion.” – Philippians 1:6
📖 “They went out from us, but they were not of us…” – 1 John 2:19

8. We Go to Be with God Forever

When we die—or when Jesus returns—we’ll be with Him forever in a place of joy, peace, and worship. Those who reject Christ will face judgment.

📖 “To be absent from the body and to be at home with the Lord.” – 2 Corinthians 5:8
📖 “Come, you who are blessed by My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you.” – Matthew 25:34
📖 “Whoever does not believe is condemned already… but whoever believes has eternal life.” – John 3:18, 36

R.O.C. Church Statement of Faith

We, the Revelation of Christ (R.O.C.) Bible Church of Los Angeles, believe that the Bible is the inspired, infallible, and inerrant Word of God, and the only sufficient, final authority for all matters of faith and practice. Scripture is God’s self-revelation, the supreme standard by which all human conduct, creeds, and opinions should be tested (2 Timothy 3:16–17). Jesus Christ, the eternal Word made flesh, is the fulfillment of God’s revelation (John 1:1, 14).

We believe in one living and true God, eternally existing in three distinct persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit (Deuteronomy 6:4; Matthew 28:19). These three are equal in power and glory, sharing the same divine essence, yet performing distinct roles in the work of creation, redemption, and sanctification.

We believe that God is holy, sovereign, all-wise, and unchanging, and that He governs all things according to His perfect will and for His glory (Isaiah 46:9–10; Romans 11:36).

We believe that man was created in the image of God but, through Adam’s fall, all mankind inherited a sinful nature and are by nature spiritually dead, totally depraved, and under God’s just condemnation (Romans 3:10–23; Ephesians 2:1–3). Man is unable to save himself or even seek after God apart from divine grace (Romans 8:7–8; 1 Corinthians 2:14).

We believe that salvation is by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone (Ephesians 2:8–9). Before the foundation of the world, God graciously chose in Christ those whom He would save, not based on foreseen merit or decision, but solely out of His sovereign mercy and good pleasure (Ephesians 1:4–5; Romans 9:11–16). The atoning death of Jesus Christ on the cross was a substitutionary and effectual sacrifice, securing redemption for His elect (John 10:11, 27–29; 1 Peter 3:18).

We believe that all who are regenerated by the Holy Spirit are irresistibly drawn to faith in Christ, are justified by His righteousness imputed to them, and are adopted as children of God (John 6:37, 44; Romans 8:29–30). The Holy Spirit indwells every believer, sanctifies them progressively, and serves as the seal and guarantee of their eternal inheritance (Ephesians 1:13–14; Romans 8:9–11).

We believe that justification is by faith alone, but saving faith is never alone—it is always accompanied by repentance and good works as the fruit and evidence of true faith (James 2:17; Galatians 5:22–25).

We believe that those whom God has justified will be kept by His power and will persevere in faith to the end (John 10:28–29; Philippians 1:6). Those who fall away were never truly born again (1 John 2:19).

We believe that Jesus Christ will return bodily and visibly to judge the living and the dead, and to establish the fullness of His kingdom. All people will be raised—those in Christ to everlasting life, and those apart from Him to everlasting judgment (Acts 1:11; Matthew 25:31–46; Revelation 20:11–15).
